Heroes of La Cartuja: Jocelyn Angloma
One of the stars of the 1999 Copa del Rey final was fullback Jocelyn Angloma. He spoke to VCF MEDIA to remember the game, and also his time at Valencia CF.
A growing team
I have seen many Valencia CF games this season and I have seen the growth that the team have had. The coach has been able to get a lot out of the players.
Dimitri Foulquier
I would like another player from Guadeloupe to win the cup with Valencia. I know him very well. I have seen him grow. He played with my son for the Guadalupe youth team.
A great memory
It was phenomenal. It was the first time I had experienced something like that. I remember the welcome by the fans at Mestalla to celebrate the trophy. I would like Valencia CF to win it again, and to be able to repeat what we experienced 23 years ago.
A perfect match
I have recently seen footage from the match, with the goals by Claudio López and Mendieta. That day, we thought that nothing could stop us. We had a lot of faith in ourselves, and we won clearly. The team had personality and, although Atletico Madrid had a great team, we knew that the cup would be coming to Valencia CF. We played the way we needed to play.
The squad in 1999
There was a mix of young players and others with a lot of experience. Djukic, Amadeo Carboni and I, having already won the Champions League, we knew how to do things.
Importance of the fans
The Valencia CF fans are always behind the players. They are there when things go wrong, and also in the good times.
Mendieta's goal
He did incredible things for Valencia CF in just a few years. When Ranieri put him in midfield, it changed everything. He couldn’t have done it better and, moreover, he did it in a final.
A complete competition
I remember, above all, the game against Real Madrid at Mestalla. The team had confidence, faith and played good football. You can't get to a final if you don't play football well. In addition, we had a lot of heart. Valencia CF fans like players who fight, who give their all.
The team’s chances
It is possible to win this cup. When I watch the team play, I see that they know how to fight, can hold on when things aren’t going well, and also know how to go forward and score goals. Sometimes, players with some experience may be lacking, but the coach has been able to lead the team to be able to fight.
